Why we do this
Some conditions are invisible. Tourette's, depression, anxiety, the ones nobody can see from across a room. People living with them carry something on top of the condition itself, which is shame, and it makes asking for help harder than the help was ever going to be.
That is the whole reason habo is anonymous. A gift that arrives without a name attached asks nobody to explain themselves, or to be grateful in public, or to be the person who needed help. The money arrives and the dignity stays where it was.
So we want to do three things for the organisations working in this space.
Give them exposure
In front of people who are already thinking about helping someone.
Put a spotlight on the conditions
The shame survives on how little these conditions get talked about.
Help where we can
With volunteers, and with attention.
What we are after is a more generous society, and a shorter distance between someone needing help and someone giving it.
habo is a company, not a charity. Gifts sent through habo are not tax deductible.
